SKATE CANADA COACHES ARE RECOGNIZED AS BEING THE BEST IN THE WORLD, LEADING NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SKATERS TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD STAGE

 

Skate Canada trains and certifies coaches through the Coaching Association of Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). All coaches must maintain the following requirements to be in good standing:

  • Skate Canada Coaching Membership
  • Skate Canada NCCP Status
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Background screening
  • Completion of Respect in Sport Training Activity Leader Training
  • Completion of the Skate Canada Code of Ethics

Bio: Brittany has 18 years of coaching experience in Dance, Skills & Freeskate.

Ashley Bishop   Certification: Provincial Coach Trained
Bio: Ashley brings 11 years of coaching experience to our club.
Lori Brett Certification: National Coach Certified
Bio: Lori brings 25+ years of coaching experience from Canskate to Podium Pathway.  She has coached skaters at the Atlantic, National, and Junior Grand Prix levels. Lori's primary focus is singles and pairs. Accepting new skaters based on availability.
Joanne Burry   Certification: Provincial Coach Certified
Bio: Joanne brings 30+ years of coaching to our club
Mark Butt   Certification: Regional Coach Trained
Bio: Mark began coaching last season coaching on the STARSkate/Podium Pathway sessions, was a competitive skater with MPPSC competing nationally for several years.
Danica Dean Certification: Regional Coach Certified
Bio: Danica has been coaching for nine years and has coached CanSkate, synchronized skating, Special Olympics, and singles. Currently, Danica primarily coaches singles, but helps out on synchro where needed. She is also a STAR 1-4 Event Assessor and an Event Technician with Skate Canada.
Our coaching team is currently accepting new skaters, subject to availability.
Emil Francis Certification: Provincial Coach Trained
Bio: Emil has eight years of coaching experience and has coached most programs and disciplines. Right now, Emil's focus is on singles, synchronized skating, and Special Olympics. Emil co-coaches with Danica Dean, Sarah George, and a few other wonderful coaches. They are accepting for new skaters.
Emil's coaching philosophy is all about meeting skaters exactly where they are and letting them direct their path in skating. Sport is the medium through which we focus on developing physical literacy, perseverance, grit, and confidence.
Emma Gifford  

Certification: Regional Coach In-Training
Bio: Emma is a junior in high school, skating on the STAR 8 synchro team.

Norah Lynch  

Certification: Provincial Coach in Training
Bio: Norah is first-year Memorial University student going into her third year of coaching. She coaches Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Synchro, and STAR 1-5 skaters. This season she is also skating on the Gold Starlites Synchro team, training and competing in the StarSkate Pathway.

Daisy Power-Sinnicks   Certification: Provincial Coach Certified
Bio: Daisy has over 30 years of coaching experience. She has attended numerous continuing education sessions, conferences and workshops to further develop her coaching experience. Daisy coaches all disciplines.
James Rees   Certification: Regional Coach Certified
Bio: This is James' second year coaching. You will find him on Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, and STARSkate/podium pathway sessions. He is a grade 12 student who still skates competitively as STAR 9 and 10 in singles and Pre-Novice in pairs.
Emily Simms    

Certification: Regional Coach Trained
Bio: This is Emily's first year of coaching our Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, and STARSkate pathways. 

Katie Slaney   Certification: Regional Coach Trained
Bio: Katie coaches on the Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate and STARSkate sessions. Katie was a competitive skater with MPPSC for many years prior to starting coaching last season. Katie is a first year MUN student and skates on the Open Starlites.
Brooklyn Smith

Certification: Regional Coach Certified
Bio: Brooklyn
coaches singles and synchro and has been coaching for three years. She is in her first year at Memorial University and she speaks both English and French.

Allison Stinson

Certification: Regional Coach Certified
Bio: Allison is a Memorial University student, and coaches on our Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Junior and Intermediate sessions. She is going into her third year of coaching

Shirley Thistle   Certification: National Coach Certified
Bio: Shirley has been coaching for over 40 years. She coaches Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate and all disciplines of STARSkate. She is currently available to take on some new Junior STARSkaters.
Neal Thorne Certification: National Coach Certified
Bio: Neal has 24 years coaching experience. He currently coaches Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, IntroSTAR, STAR, and Podium Pathway Athletes. Neal has experience working with skaters training in Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance at the Provincial and National level.
Miranda Walsh Certification: National Coach In-Training 
Bio: Miranda is going into her 14th year of coaching figure skating, after growing up training as a skater at MPPSC. She has completed the National coaching course and is working towards her certification. Miranda has coached singles skaters from fundamentals to Gold/Novice level, as well as synchro teams from Beginner/Star 4 to Novice, and Adult I. She achieved Gold pins in skills, freeskate and dance. Miranda has also attended many training camps, both as a skater and a coach, including camps in Halifax, NS and in Ellenton, FL. Additionally, she has attended Synchronized Skating Nationals as a skater and a coach. Outside of the rink, Miranda is an elementary school teacher. She has a French degree and has taught French immersion in multiple grades. Miranda loves to work with children to help them reach their potential in many areas. Miranda and Meghan White work as a coaching team, along with assistance from Emil, Brooklyn and Allison.
This team is accepting new skaters of all levels.
Meghan White Certification: Provincial Coach Trained
Bio: This is Meghan's 10th season coaching with the Mount Pearl-Paradise Skating Club. She has experience coaching Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, IntroSTAR, and STARSkate/Podium Pathway athletes. She co-coaches with Miranda Walsh and they are accepting new students subject to availability.
